Robert Bernard Brent was born in Jackson, MS on August 21, 2000 to Crystal Frazier and Bernard Brent. He grew up in Yazoo County with his mom and loving, doting grandparents, Robert and Willa Frazier.
Fittingly named, Robert took so much after his grandfather: his slow pace, his tempered speech, his sound decisiveness and his love for music. As Robert grew up, he would take out his grandfather’s Jazz and R&B collection and listen to vinyl for hours. Marvin Gaye became one of his favorite vocalists.
No circumstance stopped Robert from excelling. Being the son of a single mother, his sister, Deborah, played a major role is his development. Their bond strengthened and they learned to lean on each other with the help of surrogate grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Brown.
When Deborah graduated and went to college, Robert learned to lean on God and the wisdom that his mother and grandparents had poured into him. At times, things may have seemed rough, but GOD, who is Rich in Mercy, never left them without. Robert accepted Christ early in life, following behind his mother in ministry, and always serving wherever he could. He was a member of Glory Revival Center in Madison, MS, and a part of the campus outreach of West Point Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. He was such a responsible young man, always focused and respectful to all.
Academic Excellence was an expectation in their household and neither child disappointed. Following his sister’s footsteps, Robert graduated from St. Therese Catholic School in Jackson, MS and later Yazoo County High School in 2018. Over the course of his High School career, he attended Tougaloo College’s Science, Language Arts and Mathematics (SLAM) Workshops II and III, and he had the astute privilege of being accepted into Xavier University’s Stress on Analytical Reasoning (SOAR) program the summer before his Senior year. Robert graduated in the Top 5 of his class, scoring high on the ACT, and completing 4 dual degree classes. After careful consideration, he decided to attend the University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Media and Entertainment Arts, with emphasis in Sound and Recording.
Upon asking God how college would be paid for, the promise of the Lord to Robert’s mother was that it would be PAID IN FULL. Never slack on His promise, all of Robert’s college expenses were covered with numerous scholarships and grants. The prophetic word that was branded over Robert’s life was that he would become his own man and stand on his own two feet. He never suffered lack because he always gave as God had given to him. Robert blossomed socially and academically at Southern Miss because of his kind and compassionate demeanor, and he put 100% of his energy into whatever he participated in.
If Robert was passionate about anything, he pursued it with everything. He fell in love with USM and everyone that encountered Robert felt that love and passion. During his tenure at USM he was a member of the Honors College, an Honors Mentor, a Member of Lambda Sigma Honor Society, a Lucky Day Scholar, Sports Coordinator and upcoming Social Chair for the Vietnamese Student Association, a Member of the Lighthouse Campus Ministry and confirmed Student Government Association Senator for the upcoming academic year. Robert ended the Spring Semester of 2021 with a 3.929 GPA and a cumulative GPA of 3.704.
To honor his academic accomplishment, his mother has set up the Robert Bernard Brent scholarship fund, which will benefit a Yazoo County High School Senior furthering their education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Robert leaves to cherish his memory his Mother, Crystal Frazier Wilson (David Wilson), his father, Bernard Brent; two sisters, Deborah Frazier and Atasia Jones; one brother, Joshua Wesley, a niece, Imani Danielle; Aunts, Uncles, and a host of Cousins. Most importantly, Robert leaves so many memories and a brilliant smile that impacted the lives of man.
